“Whatever makes you uncomfortable is your biggest opportunity for growth.” – Bryant McGill
Week two of our core value series takes us to Growth. To check out last week’s blog on Challenge click here. This past weekend I had the opportunity to travel to Nashville, TN to take part in a summit of CrossFit affiliate owners from around the globe. There were over 200 people who attended this event with the sole focus being Growth.
Over the weekend we heard from speakers who helped us better understand our budgets, coaching, bringing on new team members, bringing on new members, and all things ownership. In order to get the most out of the weekend, people had to get uncomfortable in order to grow. Every owner is at a different stage in their CrossFit journey. Some are just starting down the road (like us), while others have been operating for over 10 years. Every owner had to let their guard down, be vulnerable, and share information and insights that could allow them to learn and move forward with their business.
This is exactly how growth happens for us as humans. We have to be vulnerable and humble enough to know we can do things better. We may even need to take a couple steps back in order to jump ahead towards where we want to be. It’s why we chose Growth as a core value at Greater Culture. We know that we all want to get better. We want to surround ourselves with others who are like minded and desire to improve. Growth is not a linear path that simply always leads to the top. It usually is made up of bumps, lumps, tumbles, and bruises because we don’t always know if what we’re doing is the right answer.
It allows us the space to humbly ask the question, “what can I learn from this?” If we take on the mindset of curiosity and openness it will help us to work through the discomfort in order to grow. There is a saying that there is no growth in the comfort zone, and no comfort in the growth zone. It directly applies to why we stress our bodies in order to help them grow muscle, muscular endurance, balance, coordination, and fitness. We know that in order to grow our bodies in a healthy manner, we have to make them uncomfortable and give them a reason to change.
This weekend delivered this same message over and over and over again. Growth is not a destination. It’s a mentality of how we approach our day to day lives. It means we lean in to what is tough and hard. We embrace challenge because it leads to our growth. Know that your coaches are leaning in and learning and growing so that we can best take care of all of you. We’re grateful for the Best Hour of Their Day team for providing an opportunity for our team to Grow this past weekend. We can’t wait to continue growing Greater Culture and you in 2024.
