“Great moments are born from great opportunities.” – Herb Brooks

It’s no secret that I’m a big Michigan Wolverines fan, which makes the game on January 8th a highly anticipated and exciting event. The Michigan Wolverines, a college football team, will be competing for the national championship against the Washington Huskies. It’s taken weeks and even years of preparation for this opportunity, and will be one that the players, coaches, and fans will most likely remember for a long time.

It makes me wonder what are the opportunities that we get excited about. What are the moments that we have been preparing for that will be ones we can remember for a long time. Herb Brooks said that, “Great moments are born from great opportunities.” We all want those moments in our lives. Maybe it’s a promotion at work, a vacation, a physical challenge we overcome, or being able to say, “yes” when our friends ask us to go on an adventure.

Regardless of the opportunity, we have to be ready and prepare to take advantage of it. It’s one of the reasons we love CrossFit. It prepares us both mentally and physically for life. We get together for an hour each day to improve our strength, cardiorespiratory endurance, balance, coordination, and overall health. We also realize that we are slowly stacking bricks that give us confidence to attack the moments that are in front of us. We can show up at work the way we want. We can take that trip or keep up with kids and grand kids, we can enjoy the vacations we plan because we have the capacity to do so.

It can be easy to lose sight of the opportunities we have, and they may not seem as grand as playing for the national championship, but each day we can prepare for when they come with fitness and the support of the community and coaches.

Let’s get ready for another week of fitness and stacking the bricks that will prepare for the opportunities we have!
