How many times do you wake up and think to yourself, “I wish something was different in my life.” Maybe it’s your ability to keep up little ones or friends, or your job, or the way you take care of yourself physically and mentally. We all have those thoughts creep into our heads about wanting things to be different. Wanting something to change and taking action towards that change are two different things. You can probably agree and have seen that play out in your own life.

Taking the necessary steps to embracing change is where the magic happens. It’s about to be 2024, which means the New Years resolutions and goals for the calendar year will be plenty. We have probably all heard the statistic of how many of these resolutions fall short before the end of the first month, most if not all of them. Why is that? What is so hard about making changes in our lives to move us towards where we want to be?

The quote for this week gives us a small look into why this might be. It’s simple, “Nothing changes, if nothing changes.” We tend to appreciate the status quo and knowing what is coming. We do not like change in our routines and patterns. Change can be stressful, induce anxiety, and leave us worried and fearful. We also know that through change we are able to grow, progress, take on new challenges, and evolve into something different.

If we want to set ourselves up for success in 2024, we may want to look at what our relationship is like with change. If we want something different than where we currently are, then it would make sense that we have to do something different in our daily actions and behaviors. We have to be willing and optimistic about our ability to change and that starts by being the type of person who engages in the behavior that you want to accomplish. If you want to be someone who eats a certain way, works out a certain number of times, is more confident, more optimistic, or whatever it may be, then you have to take on the actions of someone who acts and is that way.

If there is one encouragement I can provide, it is that whether you set goals, resolutions, or intentions for the year to focus on the action you want to engage in. What type of person do you want to be, because that is how you can make meaningful change that helps you have an amazing 2024.
