“Seasons change, and so do we.” – Anonymous
Is change a bad thing? Many of us would say we’re not the biggest fan of change. It throws us out of comfort zone, can lead us experience anxiety, feel uncertain, and generally is not welcome unless we can prepare for it. What’s interesting about change is that is happening all around us every single day. Things are constantly in a state of flux. As soon as we believe we have a pattern or routine down, something comes along to show us we really don’t.
So if change is inevitable, what is your relationship with change? Are you someone who tries to avoid it at all costs? Are you trying to hold onto the parts of you that are familiar and have always been that way? Are you excited for the next moment that brings uncertainty? When it comes to change we can take an approach that is empowering, exciting, and fun. We can know that with everything we have been through, we have the skills, capacity, and experience to handle anything that is thrown at us. We know that we can learn how to navigate and handle those moments that may force us to change more than we would like.
Change gives us an opportunity to continue to work towards the person we want to be. That can be in our professional careers, our health and wellness, our relationships, and the small decisions we make that add up. The changing of the season is a nice reminder that things are always changing around us. The more we fight and avoid it, the more suffering we can create in our lives. Let’s embrace the changing weather, and be excited that we have the ability to change any time we want. All it takes is a decision to be the type of person you want to be.
