“Doing hard things is the spark that reveals your true strength.” – Tara Meyer-Robson
Challenging ourselves to do fun, hard things is good for our bodies and good for our minds. Over this past week a number of Greater Culture members found ways to push themselves. Some of our members went on a long expedition to scale a mountain, others hiked to an elevation of over 11,000′, and others tried to move faster than other teams in the sport of fitness. We love to see people finding ways to do something that may bring some tension and anxiousness, and also bring a sense of accomplishment and a new found confidence for the ability to do hard things.
When CrossFit was originally created, the goal was to help people live a healthier life in the hopes of pushing off disease as long as possible. The idea was to help provide a minimum effective dose of intense movement to go along with eating in a way that support your activity levels. This was the blueprint for building a lifestyle to go against the trends in our society. Along the way people, realized that by being active, strong, and having a physical capacity they could go out and do memorable and tough physical feats. Whether it was completing an Obstacle Course, a 5k or marathon, a fitness competition, mountain biking, or scaling a mountain, people appreciated what their fitness could do for them.
We always encourage our members to go out and explore what are the ways you can put your fitness to good use. By signing up for an event or planning a trip you can give yourself a target and goal to shoot for. Part of increasing our fitness is the ability to say, “Yes” to whatever is asked of us. Whether it is a physical or a mental task. If you feel like you’re stuck in a rut of working out and not sure what to put your fitness to good use for, reach out to a coach and find something that scares you a little bit, but also excited you to take on the test.
Let’s have a great week and find those opportunities to put our physical and mental capacity on full display!
