“A culture is strong when people work with each other, for each other. A culture is weak when when people work against each other, for themselves.” – Simon Sinek
To look back over these past two months to see what all of the athletes have accomplished at Greater Culture is truly amazing. This small and mighty group has grown significantly in number, in fitness, and in building a sense of community and culture. We all join the gym for different reasons, and we are all at different points in our fitness journey. The beautiful and unique aspect about a CrossFit gym is that while we may have different aspirations and intentions for our personal lives, we can all strive together and push each other forward.
This is evident by the actions the group takes, and speaks volumes about the culture that has been created and facilitated. When a new person walks through the door for the first time and is greeted by others. When everyone is tired and worn out after a workout and we still give fist bumps to each other. When we help each other clean up and put away equipment. When we celebrate and cheer each other on as we push ourselves in workouts. These little actions go a long way in building a place that others want to be a part of.
The quote for this week highlights what a strong culture is about. It’s about people working with each other and for each other. It was on full display as we retested our front squat lifts, or when the workout with too many burpees showed up and everyone still dug in, worked through it and celebrated the achievement of finishing. When people are working for each other and showing up to support, encourage, and push each other, a strong culture emerges. It becomes the expectation and the norm for the group. It’s infectious and makes others want to be a part of it. It’s a big reason why we have grown over these last two months because of the strong and welcoming community that is here.
We can’t wait to see how this group tackles the CrossFit Open over the next three weeks. It’s a great chance to test and push ourselves with our mental and physical fitness. It’s also a great chance to support others and use that energy and encouragement to see what is possible for all of us.
While we all have different reasons we show up each day, being part of the tribe makes it all the more worth coming back again and again. Let’s continue supporting and pushing each other to see what kind of potential we all have.
